Commissioned Work

Paintings

Should you wish to commission a painting I do require at least a month’s notice for a name plaque and two months for an oil portrait. The cost of an original name plaque is £100 and a typical oil on canvas portrait (apprx. 27x35cm) featuring one subject, is £200. A pencil sketch of one subject is £150. I take a 25% deposit and require the balance on completion. Many people are concerned at how accurate the likeness to the original subject will be and whilst I can understand this concern I have not yet had one unhappy customer and pride myself in my ability to capture the likeness.

To complete a portrait I usually work from photographs which need to be clear and detailed. I am happy to paint or sketch people from life though they have to be prepared to sit for quite some time!

As I meet most people at shows and exhibitions many of my customers are not local to Devon and I therefore post the finished piece, generally it costs around £20 to post a piece insured within the U.K.

The name plaques are painted in watercolour. I am often asked if they vary in size according to the length of name, whilst there may be slight differences they are usually around 48x19cm. If the name is particularly short I make the letters bigger and add more illustration. They are also totally personalised, the more information about the child or the parent’s interests the better, I can paint in family pets, siblings and even cars!
